Travel Tips

Savannah may seem like a difficult place to get to, but we promise this weekend will be worth it.

Traveling from Florida

We've made the drive from Fort Lauderdale to Savannah many times and we actually enjoy it. Plus it means we have a car handy if we want to take a drive out to Tybee Island Beach, Hilton Head Island, Fort Pulaski, Bonaventure Cemetery or anywhere in the local low country. Driving time is about 6.5 hours and we usually stop in Palm Coast to fuel up and caffeinate.  We've done the side-by-side on driving vs. flying and when you account for time spent arriving at the airport, laying over in Atlanta and then waiting for bags and ground transportation, there's no real savings in time. So save your money, queue up your playlists and make a road trip of it!

Traveling from the Northeast and elsewhere

There are a few options when traveling to Savannah that are worth looking into. The closest airport is Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV). It's a 20 minute drive into the city from there. You can take an Uber, hail a cab or ride the city bus. Depending on where you stay, your hotel may also offer shuttle service.

The next closest major airport is Jacksonville International (JAX). It's a 2-hour drive from Savannah, but operates more flights and is often substantially less than flying into SAV. If you choose to fly into JAX expect to rent a car, but don't feel you have to keep it through the weekend. Downtown Savannah and all the events we have planned for the weekend are comfortably walkable.

For the adventurous ones, Amtrak offers service into Savannah. We know, this idea is quirky. But, it offers a scenic route, more legroom, sleeper cabins, and dining cars for a little less than roundtrip airfare.
